Ute I Schwarz, MD
Dr. Schwarz received her Medical Degree from the Medical Faculty, Technical University Dresden, Germany, in 1995. During residency training in Clinical Pharmacology she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA (1999-2000). She obtained the title/ certification as Specialist in Clinical Pharmacology (2003) in Germany. In 2004, she returned to Vanderbilt University and joined the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Medicine as a junior faculty member.
Currently Dr. Schwarz is a Research Scientist in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Medicine at UWO. Her translational research is focused on genetic and environmental factors to expression or activity of intestinal drug transport and metabolism in health or disease underlying inter-individual variability in drug response.
Topics of interest include drug-drug and herb-drug interactions as well as pharmacogenetics and -genomics of drug-metabolizing enzymes and drug transporters (e.g. cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2C9 and CYP2B6; the drug efflux transporter P-glycoprotein; drug uptake transporters such as organic anion transporting polypeptides) as well as the vitamin K epoxide reductase (VKORC1).
